Umgungundlovu TVET and Elangeni TVET College have a partnership with the British Council to share best practices. Mr Matt Laws and Ms Susan Saunders from Dudley College in the UK visited Plessislaer Campus and Midlands Campus as part of this partnership.
They conducted master classes for our staff at the 2 campuses. At Plessislaer Campus the topic was Enterprise Development. Matt presented how Dudley College had added an enterprise development course to its programme which allows students from all faculties, with great product ideas, to learn how to develop a business. They have been very successful, having one student winning 2 national competitions in innovation.
During the Midlands Campus visit the attention was on employer engagement. Matt, as director of Learning at Dudley College explained Dudley’s 5 year journey to setting up and maintaining their to Employer Development Department. He gave practical ways to setting up this partnership with industry and ways to manage these partnerships. Mr Sibiya from Umgeni Water joined the discussion from an employer’s prospective.
After the session at Midlands Campus we visited Dargle Treatment Plant to meet 3 engineering students that are doing their in-service training with Umgeni Water.
